Greetings readers. I wanted to stop in and talk about something that I have been hard at work on over the summer. As many of you may know, I am almost done with my B.A. in Creative Writing. Yay! However, the past year I have been seriously considering what do to with all this edumacation. At first I thought I wanted to teach, but when I realized the hoops I would have to go through (where I live you have to have a Master’s and then get certified to teach in the state)I decided against it. So I brainstormed and came upon another option.
I am starting a creative writing club with my district for the kids.
I have already spoken with a few people high up in the school district and they suggested to speak with the middle school principal (the one my son goes to). I spoke with him this morning and we got the ball rolling on how to go about this creative writing club for the whole school. YAY! We are looking at twice a week after school. I have to get some flyers made (yay! I get to use my experience as a designer!) and come up with some blurbs for advertising in the school announcements, newsletter, etc. I never thought I would get this far!
I also feel the need to tell you how terrifying this is. This is the first time I have done something like this. I have never started something from the ground up and certainly not thought about anything this ambitious (my goal is to get the club in the whole district, not just the one school). As an introvert who just goes along with things and admittedly tends to back out if it seems too hard, this is also a huge accomplishment. There have been many times I have considered just scrapping the idea. However, I persisted and now it looks like the pilot club is going to get started around October.
I have a lot to do, so I guess I need to get my butt to work. 🙂
