Big Weekend! Big Changes!
I did it. I got my hair cut. Not just cut, but styled and colored and streaked! I have had the stay-at-home-mom hair for at least 3 years. I think I home dyed it once. For the most part it was long (with the occasionally trim) and spent most of it’s time in a bun or pony tail. I decided to get it done Friday. I am PMSing and was in a sulky mood sitting on the couch. Babyhead was determined to get on the last remnant of a nerve I had (he had been working hard to shred my nerves for over a week and did a fairly good job of it). I was flipping channels on the TV and came across “What Not To Wear” and the woman was getting her hair done. She had her hair cut really short and razor-ed and of course dyed and highlighted. It looked awesome on her and make her look like a new person.
That’s what I wanted, to be a new person.
So, when DH came home I announced I was getting my hair done. We decided I would go Saturday and DH would stay home with the little demon Babyhead. Man, it was BLISS. I went in with a style in mind, but then changed my mind when I started looking at one of their hair books. It was similar to what I had chosen before, still short, but instead of just natural looking it would kinda flair out at the ends. Very layered, very highlighted. That was the style I ultimately chosen.
Never actually went to a salon to have anything other than a general take-a-few-inches off haircut so this was all new to me. I was there for 2.5 hours and it didn’t seem like that long. She was nice and personable and we spoke of husbands and kids and salons and hair cuts. She was also very interested in what I liked (unlike some people I have been too that always came across as an I-know-more-than-you-so-I-am-right kinda people). After the highlights I told her it wasn’t what I expected and she kinda got scared…then I told her I wasn’t sure what I expected since I have never had my hair done like that before, and I was totally thrilled with it.
She even made the comment that I looked more alive when she was styling my hair after it was dyed. That’s because I DID feel alive and so much better than when I went in. DH loved it, so did the ILs…not like they really mattered.
The before picture isn’t the best, but all the rest you couldn’t really see my hair!
We went to Party City to start getting the last bits of our costumes together for the party this weekend. We got Babyhead a beard and mustache for his “pieyant” (see Pirate) costume. DH got his ghoul’s robe and sickle. I am having to piece mine together since for some reason no one has any Valkyrie or even Viking costumes. It won’t be perfect but it will work. I had to buy a roman breast-plate piece, but not sure what I am doing to do about underneath it…
As we were checking out of party city, Babyhead came across what I think was a party favor, but it was a lollipop holder made to look like Doc from Cars. I put it on the counter and we paid. As we were walking out of the store, Babyhead starts crying for it. It was in the bag so we stopped on the sidewalk so I could dig around the bag and find it. In the meantime Babyhead went into full-blown meltdown mode and proceeded to hit DH. DH gets mad and can barely hold his temper. I continue to look for the damn sucker since we had to go to the grocery as well and didn’t want to deal with a screaming kid the whole time.
I find the party favor and give it to him with a warning that he wasn’t getting anything else that day and if he hit one of us again then he would get a spanking as well. All three of us went to the car in silence to put our costumes there so we could walk across to the grocery. I have to say that it wasn’t so much Babyhead that got me pissed off Saturday as it was DH! He just has no patience and refuses to learn it when Babyhead decides to meltdown. We did our food shopping and went home.
Sunday:
I was sleepy so I curl up on the couch with blanket and pillow and decide to take a nap. DH said he wasn’t interested but decided at some point to take a nap as well on the other side (we have a sectional). The next thing I know DH gets up all made and yelling at Babyhead…apparently Babyhead got lonely when we fell asleep (as often happens, it’s how I get him to take naps) and decided to get up on DH’s side of the couch. DH felt like he was being pushed off and got mad at Babyhead and proceeded to throw his own tantrum and push chairs and slam things while getting up.
I reminded him that of course Babyhead got up on the couch because we were there…if he was smart he could have made room (yes we all three can fit on the couch comfortably with a little Tetris action) and everyone would have been happy. I told babyhead to get on the couch and covered him up, then fell back asleep until the ILs came over to see the Eagles game. He was in a bad mood the rest of the day and we argued on and off. He didn’t talk to me most of the day (jerkface). He made the comment later that night about “alone time”. All I could think of was that he actually thought he was gonna get laid after acting like a jack ass all day. *sigh*
I also went shopping…not “real” shopping but online. I used my credit card! LOL I bought a few things that would make the house a little better like some shelves and what-not. I got a shoe rack for the front hallway. We make everyone take their shoes off when they come in (mainly because Babyhead is always eating something he dropped on the floor…and it helps keep the house a little cleaner.) so I got a rack for guests to put their shoes on. I am so excited! I also bought my MIL a kitchen sink stopper that has a handle that looks like a Christmas tree. ROFL She LURVES that stuff. Yea, it is silly…but it is the kind of thing that is right up her alley. She keep looking for a Christmas soap dish…I am still looking for one…
